Behavior Consulting
Behavior management is a scientific method that is based on the idea that problem behavior is learned over time and maintained by consequences in the environment. Effective behavioral management often requires teaching a new skill or an appropriate behavior to replace an inappropriate behavior. Services can be rendered in many different environments including the home, work, school, day program, community settings, etc. Assessments and Behavior Support Plans are completed to target problem behaviors and provide the team with methods to work with the individual to reduce pain associated with poor choice making and increase personal happiness by teaching more appropriate alternative behaviors. Consistency and repetition are key components to behavior change.
Recreational Therapy
Recreational therapy is a systematic process that utilizes recreation and other activity-based interventions to address the assessed needs of individuals with illnesses and/or disabling conditions. The purpose of the Recreational Therapy process is to promote health and wellness. By working to reduce or eliminate limitations and/or restrictions Recreational Therapy aims to improve or maintain physical, cognitive, social, emotional and spiritual functioning. The end goal is to facilitate full participation in life.
All Recreational Therapy services are provided or directly supervised by a “Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist” (CTRS).
Music Therapy
Music therapy is a relationship based therapeutic practice that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals. Trained music therapists employ various musical elements like rhythm, melody, harmony, and lyrics to create interventions tailored to a person’s specific needs. The purpose of music therapy can vary based on the specific goals of the individual or group participating in the therapy sessions. Its adaptability makes it a valuable tool in various settings including home, schools, healthcare facilities, and community centers. The beauty of music is that it transcends language and connects us in a way other art forms don’t.
All Music Therapy services are provided or directly supervised by a provider who has been granted the credential of “Music Therapist – Board Certified” (MT- BC).
Psychotherapy (Individual, Family, & Group)
Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, refers to a variety of treatments that aim to help a person identify and change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Psychotherapy can help eliminate or control troubling symptoms so a person can function better and can increase well-being and healing. Most psychotherapy takes place when a licensed mental health professional and a patient meet one-on-one or with other patients in a group setting.
Problems helped by psychotherapy include difficulties in coping with daily life; the impact of trauma, medical illness or loss, like the death of a loved one; and specific mental disorders, like depression or anxiety. Psychotherapy may be used in combination with medication or other therapies.
Consistency is Key
In order for behavioral progress to be achieved or maintained consequences and rewards must be consistently applied.
Shouldn't Symptoms Decrease
The goal of behavior management is to decrease maladaptive behaviors (symptoms). However, it is common for symptoms to increase as behavioral modifications are added. This explosion of increased behaviors is usually temporary.
Typical Behaviors
Typical Behaviors include physical aggression, verbal aggression, elopement, social isolation, inappropriate language, and much more. Everyone is different and so are their behaviors, no one is typical.
Length of Treatment
There is no specified length of treatment. Behaviors change as people mature and situations change. Usually, as specific behaviors become extinct, other behaviors take their place.
